ACROSS this year is again facilitating a group programme with children. In the first
term of 2007 the programme is being held at Takaro
School in Palmerston North.
The programme is designed for 8 – 10 year olds and is limited to eight children. There has been high
demand so far for the group.
The programme objectives include raising children’s self-esteem by giving them the opportunity to
have positive interaction with children of their own age group. The outcomes sought include
building children social skills, teaching new ways to cope with difficult situations and developing
self confidence.
The benefits of such a programme are likely to be seen in children’s behaviour in the classroom as
well as at home.
The programme is facilitated by two staff over six weeks of the school term and takes place after
school usually for an hour and half.
